{"id":20228,"date":"2025-07-25T01:05:46","date_gmt":"2025-07-25T08:05:46","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.fictiv.com\/?post_type=cpt_help&#038;p=20228"},"modified":"2025-08-18T23:37:02","modified_gmt":"2025-08-19T06:37:02","slug":"what-are-your-standard-manufacturing-tolerances","status":"publish","type":"cpt_help","link":"https:\/\/www.fictiv.com\/help\/fictiv-teams\/what-are-your-standard-manufacturing-tolerances","title":{"rendered":"What are your standard manufacturing tolerances?"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"printing\">3D Printing<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>With the curing\/cooling of resin used in this manufacturing process, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.fictiv.com\/3d-printing-service\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" target=\"_blank\">3D printing<\/a> is not held to the same tolerance standard as other higher precision manufacturing methods.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A general rule of thumb is around \u00b10.2mm tolerance for PolyJet parts, \u00b10.3mm for SLS and MJF parts, \u00b10.1mm for SLA parts, and \u00b10.5mm for FDM (ABS and PETG) parts. Note that FDM PLA, which is printed in open air conditions, would likely have tolerances of \u00b11.0mm. For each printing technology, larger parts will have an even wider tolerance range.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The above are rough guidelines and should be used only for reference. For more in-depth design parameters, be sure to conduct a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.fictiv.com\/hwg\/design\/how-to-conduct-a-tolerance-analysis-for-3d-printed-parts\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" target=\"_blank\">tolerance analysis<\/a>.
